Sound Diorama is a collection of interactive soundscapes designed by Massimiliano Manella. It’s a place that allows you to travel through many different sound-shaped universes, some from the world we live in and some others from our imagination.This platform is tailored to offer users multiple possibilities: from recreating your own focusing background noise to simply explore the sonic possibility of each environment. Whether you’re a student, an employee, a role-player, or a curious person who just wants to soothe his ears, Sound Diorama is dedicated to you.

Silently lifting up from the ground level of a mysterious pond, you are surrounded by a comforting darkness, where the sunlights barely filter through the trees.

- Mountain Walk -

A view able to travel far away and the cleanest air on the planet makes freedom look so obvious. Wear your boots, be a part of the Alps wildlife, and remember to take the deepest breaths you can.

About Sound Diorama

Procedurally Generated Audio

Fmod® is the main engine behind every diorama. This unique software is one of the most employed in the videogames industry as it offers almost infinite ways to integrate audio material into an adaptive environment.
One of the most interesting functionality this project takes advantage of is a module that procedurally randomizes the playback of prearranged audio material. Rather than assigning a simple audio loop to each element of every diorama, this module allows to randomly insert shorter audio clips along the track, generating what we can call a never-repeating loop.

It is well known that many people while studying, working, or chilling, like to play environmental audio backgrounds to focus. Even if this platform is designed for a broad user base, audio background generation is the easiest way to enjoy Sound Diorama. Find the perfect balance between every element of a diorama, set the soundscape you generated at a slightly audible volume, and let it play.

The content of each diorama isn’t just about environmental sounds. The enthusiasm for medium such as video games and movies, led me to recreate something that take inspiration from these worlds, where you don’t actually need to be maniacally accurate, rather ideal and subliminal. The musical content associated to each diorama is specifically composed and produced to give back to the listener an ideal perception of the place he chosed to visit. This, even if it means a significantly longer production time, represent one of the most important aspects in order to experiment around environmental identity.
